Stardate 61687.1 - Talladega Nights

I watched Talladega Nights:The Ballad of Ricky Bobby over the past 2 days (an hour Friday night and the second hour while Loren and Cheryl ran out to do some shopping late this afternoon). In a word:

Awful.

Really, really bad.

I got the impression that there was a lot of improv around a very lose plot line, the results of which was a movie that was uneven, unfunny, and "un-entertaining". And the direction the movie was heading in was obvious about 20 minutes in - but during that first 20 minutes I found myself asking multiple times, "What is the point of this?". While there were a few funny parts they were few and far between and most jokes were drawn out way too long - the movie could have been 30 minutes shorter. What is it people say? "Cut for pacing".

After I committed an hour I felt as I had to complete it, but I almost didn't even finish it. We had it on our list because after a succession of depressing dramas we felt we needed a few comedies.

Thumb down. Cheryl feel asleep Friday night 30 minutes into it and had zero interest in completing the movie.

Hmmm, this one was loaned to me and it's been sitting there waiting to be watched for almost five months now. Just never got motivated to watch it. Now I'm not sure if I should or if I should watch it just to see how bad it really is.

I saw it (strangly enough) Friday night. I thought it was really funny in an extremely stupid way. Kinda like stupid funny the Adam Sandler does it. Not an academy award winner by any stretch of the imagination. But enough for a few laughs. Or maybe I just have a really juvenile sense of humor... That could be it...

Yeah, I thought there were a couple of laughs early on, but the pacing was so sloooooooooow and it was pretty obvious what was going to happen.

Give yourself a couple of months off from Will Ferrel and then watch Blades of Glory (we watched it last night). There are several more laugh-out-loud moments, and it's only 90 minutes long.

I agree with you Curt...Talledega Nights was brutal. Watching the trailer would've yielded the same number of laughs (not many) and saved us about 1.5 hours of our lives that we'll never get back.

1.5? I watched the "unrated" version and it was over 2 hours! Do you mean that they actually added another 30 minutes of unfunny material for the unrated version?

Argh!
