Stardate 60718.90 - Sunday Trip

Cheryl and I went out to Long Island Sunday morning to Glen Cove, Sea Cliff, and Garvies Point. We ate luch at Once Upon a Moose in Sea Cliff and then did a little hiking at Garvies Point. The places we visited were really neat, but traffic was awful both coming and going - what should have been a 30 minute drive was and hour and a half each way.

Glen Cove's my old stomping ground!!! I lived there until 1987.

And tell my why the drive should've been 30 minutes? My mom used to commute to the Citibank building in Manhattan, and it would take her 1 hour and 45 minutes EACH way!!!!

Yes, but NY's metro area is millions and millions of people, and my guess is you took the Belt Parkway out there, and the Belt isn't known for it's rapid transit (doesn't matter day or time of day)! LIE isn't much better. From Grandma's apartment in Brooklyn, to our house in Glen Cove via the Belt, it would take about 45 minutes.

We took the LIE. I think Long Island traffic is exceptionally bad even for the NY metro area -- maybe too few alternate roads? This is why we almost never go to Long Island -- we rarely hit traffic that bad at off hours on the weekends going out to NJ or upstate NY (except on summer weekends, when we avoid driving as much as possible!).
