Stardate 60695.76 - Around Downtown by Motor

I think I've mentioned before that Cheryl and I are currently members of the New York Health and Racquet Club and that they have a Yacht that you can make a reservation on for a trip around Manhattan. We tried to go some time ago but there was a storm that night so we took a rain check and went Sunday afternoon instead with Chris and Lisa.

We didn't bring a camera, but luckily Chris and Lisa did so here are some of the shots they took. I was told I needed to get approval before I posted any people pictures, so I'm only posting scenery shots today! ;-)

It was a buffet lunch on board (~$25 per person), and alcohol was extra ($5 beers). The cruise was free since Cheryl and I are members and Chris and Lisa were our guests. The cruise was 3 hours, which was 30-60 minutes too long for a Sunday afternoon. It was not too crowded, but I'm not sure how the Friday or Saturday night cruises are. I can see that it could be quite the party on a weekend night!

And in other news, Loren turns 10 months old today, so we'll take some pictures this afternoon and post probably tomorrow of the birthday girl!

That first picture is a nice shot. The air seems a little hazy though (obviously not much you can do about that). I would be interested in seeing what it would look like if you crop the heck out of out it and make it a panoramic.

And I can't imagine taking the kids on a three hour boat ride. I would think they would be done with it after an hour at most.

We didn't take Loren. Cheryl's parents came in early and we all went to Mass and then they stayed at home with Loren so we could go on the cruise.

And it didn't occur to me until after I posted the link that I was posting a picture of the downtown skyline 5 years after the towers fell. I mean, I know that the anniversary was today, but I didn't think about the significance of the picture with respect to today until after I posted it.

The marina where I sail from (North Cove) is right beside the Winter Garden and the World Financial Center, so I pass the World Trade Center site every time I go down there to sail.

What a really wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon. That seems worth the price of membership right there!!

Did the weather start getting rough?

Was your tiny ship tossed?

Yes, we all made that joke while we were on the boat.

Actually, it did get pretty cloudy at the end and the East River was rough on the way back to port. Couple of people on the upper deck almost fell down.
